Why do Covid-19 cases continue to increase? Head of Sub-Division of the Emergency Dukkes Covid-19 Task Force, dr. Alexander Ginting said that the trend of increasing Covid-19 cases as of June 15, 2022, had broken at 1,251 cases in 24 hours due to various factors. "There are many factors that cause it, after a long holiday, high mobility, easing travel requirements because they have been vaccinated and there is a new variant of Covid-19," said Alex when contacted by Kompas.com, Wednesday (15/6/2022). He added that the easing of the requirements referred to is virology lab examination, which is not the main obligation because a person or transportation user has been fully vaccinated. According to him, the re-emergence of Covid-19 cases is similar to what happened in June 2021. "It's similar to June 2021, only in June 2021 (which spreads) is the Delta variant," he continued
As is known, the world is currently dealing with new variants of the corona virus, namely Omicron BA.4 and BA.5, which have a higher transmission rate than Delta. Symptoms of those who are currently positive for Covid-19 Alex said that the symptoms of those who are currently positive for Covid-19 are mild clinical. This affects the vaccinations that have been carried out by those exposed to corona infection. "For those who complete the vaccination, there are no comorbidities, mild clinical symptoms," said Alex. "In fact, many do not have severe symptoms. So many finally think they are not sick despite the positive PCR or rapid test results," he added.

Due to the increase in cases, Alex appealed to all levels of stakeholders and the community to increase the Covid-19 specimens or tests carried out per day. He considered that only about 75,000 specimens were being tested, even though this figure was not in accordance with the orders for testing according to the Instructions of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) No. 29 and No. 30.
